I enjoy keeping up on Clan Hunter information from various websites in Scotland, the UK, and in the USA. I have also purchased items from the Hunter store. The Clan Store purchases have been great for family gifts.
We held a Hunter Family Reunion for the direct decendants of Alexander and Jane Hunter this past summer. Alexander was born in North Carolina, and our previous reunions were held there.
This past summer we held our reunion in Washington State. Everyone had a grand time, including my father's 96 year old first cousin that attended. Cousins in Florida will be hosting our next reunion in that beautiful state.

hello to all, i am very proud to have found the hunter clan web site. i was just looking for the clan kilt and found it. i know that i am a forth generation hunter to be living here in the usa. my grandfather once told me when i was a boy that we came from scotland and i've been proud of that since. i use the bruce clan e-mail because i was told by a geniologist that we served the bruce clan. its hard to find information on the clan, i had hoped to find some pictures of the hunterston castle but no luck. i spent a total of 6 1/2 years in germany and always wanted to go to scotland and never took the time because of lack of knowledge of the clan. never again! the anwsers are there if you look long enough. thank you! |

Hi all, my Dad (Robert James Hunter) told me about this site today, I have yet to look more into the site but it looks great so far. It is interesting to find out where the Hunter's went from Scotland. If any one can help I am looking to find out about any Hunter's who moved to Castletownroche, Co.Cork. I visit the village occasionally as we have friends and family still living there and I know that the first house that was built in the village was by the Hunter's and it still stands today!! Also myself and my Husband have discovered that our families have crossed paths in Scarborough years ago. My Uncle Brian Pickup went to school with my Husbands Dad Peter Wiley - my Uncle Brian lives in the house right next to an old factory which used to be owned by my Husbands relatives and last but not least we both used to take holidays in Scarborough at about the same time and we used to play on the same part of the beach! My Grandfather bearing the same name served without mishaps for 40years as railway signalman at West Kilbride of his total of 50years with the LMS Railway coy.He and my Grandmother lived and raised a family in the Railway Buildings, Law Brae.
Interesting site.I can recall my Grandmother taking my brother and me for a walk whilst on holiday. West Kilbride to Portincross and back.About 67years ago now. Pity I hadn't checked in earlier I might have tried to make it to the gathering. |

His father is Edward Holt Hunter born 1898 in Glasgow. Edward's father was Wallace Hunter, born 1871 also Glasgow and he married Lucinda Holt born 1870 Glasgow.
Wallace's father was John Hunter, born in 1830 and marrried Catherine Wallace born in Paisley. Now when I try to go beyond John Hunter born 1830 Glasgow, I am getting stuck.

Sorry, another question !
I recently had the experience of seeing a chap wearing the same Hunter tartan tie as myself...When I said hello as one Hunter to another, he said I was talking through my hat, and that his name was Russell and that his tartan (which was exactly the same as mine) was "Russell tartan" - I since checked and I am convinced that mine is the official one...any comments??

I have read your website with interest and did bring back many good memories, my wife and I, Louise Hunter attended the Hunter gathering in 1992 at Hunterston and had such a great time. I was even taught how to dance the proper scots way!, by a young chap whose name I forget, however his parents Iain and Lilly were a lovely couple and can't fault them one bit for all the arrangements and organising they put together for the gathering, made a great day out. Whatever happened to that lovely couple, I lost touch with them and have not seen any mention of them on your website?
Due to ill health we cannot travel far these days and can only read about the family history here online.
I am somewhat puzzled as to why the arch lintle has remained when the castle wall was re-bricked, is there a reason for this or is it safety reasons.?

My grandfather and great grandfather, both named Robert Hunter, lived in Brandon, Durham County, England during the middle and late 1800's. Before that, my great grandfather listed his place of birth as Hilton/Ingleton, Durham. My grandfather emigrated to the USA in the early 1900's. |

My son recently asked about his ancestors. My Great-Grandfather, William Hunter came to the USA from Ireland, had a family in New York (wife: Amelia Collins, children: William, Thomas, John, Richard, Florence & Nell... maybe more... maybe not in birth order)all happening between 1880s & 1910? GG William was apparently a gadabout and tragic soul who traveled throughout the USA. (Here it is 2002 and people are still looking for him!) Anybody else know anything about him?
